Storytime Tasks for Young Children

  1. Listen to the stories.
  2. Naming characters, titles of the stories.
  3. Retell the stories.
  4. Drawing favorite characters (KG).
  5. Drawing favorite characters, or  part of the story, and write one sentence about it.(Grade 1& 2).

Storytime Tips for Young Children

  1.  Children can watch/read  stories on the screen.
  2.  Predict the next part, or ending part of the story. Stop at 'cliff-hanger" pages and ask them what they think will come next.
  3. Use stories to discuss their own opinions like  anger, selfishness, greed, laziness, being polite, kindness, etc. For example, the grasshopper is kind of lazy, isn't he? what happened to him because of it (The Ant and the Grasshopper)? or the Queen (Snow white) wasn't very kind, was she? And so on.
  4. Let's the children help you continue parts of story.  If the children listen or read the book/story several times and know it well, pause when you come to an obvious word or phrase, and let the children say it. For example, in the Little Red Riding Hood, the children can easily say the phrases " Granny, what big eyes you have?" and " All the better to see you with!", etc.
  5. Find out favorite characters, favorite part of the stories, and illustrate them.
  6.  Retell stories.
  7. Role-play/Acting out.   Children can act out stories easily, and have fun  through finger puppets or felt board characters. " Little Red Riding Hood" finger puppet characters can be down loaded at britishcouncil.org/kids-stories-red-riding-hood-puppets.pdf
